Training starts as young as possible. In our experience imprinting is a valuable asset to developing a trusting relationship with the horses. When they trust you unconditionally at such a young age it makes a safer
relationship for life. Imprinting is a fun experience for both people and foals. A gentle firmness to
establish leadership along with a, 'lets go play and explore' attitude will help develop brave trusting horses.
We are always encouraging a courageous and friendly attitude to the foals, while we take them for walks,
teach them to stand tied, lift their feet and practice loading in and out of the trailer.

Our yearlings are introduced to round pen reasoning & the Natural Horsemanship seven games.
They also enjoy being ponied for short excursions with older experienced horses. I am a strong
believer in letting more experienced horses help teach the younger ones this makes the
learning environment safer for everyone from horse to handler. The youngsters brain is relaxed by
the older horses presence therefore they learn faster.

I have had the pleasure of studying many great training techniques. They all have something. Each horse is an individual so the more ideas we have, the more fun and interesting we become as horsemen & women.

Around the third year we start saddle work. They will be saddled and worked in a saddle without a rider
for awhile - ponying them, walk, trot, canter transitions out on the trail, etc. When they are comfortable
willing and interested in 'what’s next?', they will accept a rider without any problems.

Our back yard is a part of Snowy Mountain wilderness. The mountain is a great training tool and playground.
There are constant interactions with wildlife. Un-groomed trails teach a horse to be very coordinated by
picking their way thru rocks and logs. The horses get used to crossing rivers, bridges, climbing cliffs,
going through bushes and our favourite, swimming. It's all fun and excitement.

We have a lot of fun and enjoyment training fjords. Fjords may look alike to the others but they are
all individuals with personalities all their own. They are a gentle, calm, sweet natured breed
of horse. We absolutely adore them.
Matching the right horse and rider is so important. There are ones that love to go and
others that like it slow as well as bigger draftier fjords or sporty athletic versions. If you are looking into our
fjords be 'for-warned', I'll be asking lots of questions to make sure the best fit is made.
